I'm on a superhero kick

Updates may be spotty in the upcoming weeks as i'm currently moving out of San Diego (and spending a week living on friends' couches as a result) and access to scanners, internet, and cartooning time will be of vague reliability at best.

That's What She Said, part II.

I actually like this one more because it's actual amoeba humor than for the fact that it's a that's what she said.

Macbeth

The man loved puns. There's no denying it.

Sorry, kids

i fell asleep trying to come up with a comic last night. Dunno if i'll come up with a catch-up or just call that strike one. Updates in the coming weeks may be spotty, depending on certain things going on in my life.

Early comics, part I.

So this is actually from way back in high school, probably late 2002 to early 2003, when i was drawing a daily comic for my friends who had seventh period economics in the same classroom as my sixth period government. This was most likely drawn during the height of my "arbitrariness is funny" period. "Ed" is not - repeat, not - an analogue for Evan Mew, nor what we all envisioned doing to him at that period of our lives.

Upon reflection, i think this is on my facebook, so there's a good probability ninety percent of you have seen this already. Alas, it is filler, because i am on a blitzkrieg mission to finish the game Fire Emblem 6 tonight.

Caterpillar Bar

"Anyways, i just wanted to come over here and tell you not to wait up."

Man, it was quite a fight getting this one up in time tonight. I had it drawn out by like seven this afternoon, but then i didn't get home until 11:20 tonight and then my computer was freezing up on me both in photoshop and just trying to get the damn internet to work.

Tales from Unemployment

That's a real comic i was drawing. It did not make me audibly laugh out loud.

Stolen from the MQ, part I.

Semi filler, today. If you read the MQ, this is one of my features that i've done (permission was vaguely given by Drew). Distressingly, i'm leaving for LA in a few minutes and didn't have time to write a comic for today. So i'm assuming the majority of you have already seen this. But if not... well, it's pretty good, right?

Classic American Films

Though predating the 1939 remake by several years, the original was never as popular. The largest contributing factor was its somewhat depressing ending, in which, unlike the Stewart version, the filibuster fails because, tragically, no one can understand the small-town Cluthulian nightmare god. And then he eats everyone's souls.

That's What She Said, part I.

"part I." on the assumption that there will be more of them. It is, after all, a very reusable joke. God, i'm sure my parents would be proud of me right now.

So this is funny

...but i'm out of paper. Will try to acquire some in time to get a comic in by tomorrow. Hopefully? Maybe?

For Drew and Nicole

So i'm sorry about this one guys, but when i was sitting here trying to think up a comic, all that i could think about was that ridiculous movie. I somehow doubt that this comic will translate to outside the watched-Doomsday demographic, but really. That movie was ridiculous.

Hopefully this will get it out of my system and by monday we can all be laughing at my unemployed hijinks again.

A.A.

"...Women just don't belong here, alright?"

So my simple solution to the scan-and-clean problem was to just stop coloring, as cleaning isn't required if i don't color. Basically all i do now is draw, scan, and move things around to make the panel layout a little more aesthetically pleasing. Yay for copping out!

ALSO: i do have a size limit, apparently. Blogger informs me that i've used about 11%... so it's been about three weeks and i've used a little over a tenth of my space. That means i have - what? - twenty seven more weeks? Or something? Mmm. I maybe should start looking into a different place to host this.

Origin of Blubber Buddies

I realize this whole switching of blog addresses looks like an April Fools joke, but it's not. I just like Blubber Buddies as the title of my comic. Which, actually, in a roundabout sort of way originates from this comic.

I drew a simplified version of this idea for the MQ one issue, and it was going to be the comic, and then, bored and listening to the content room telling stories about whales eating penguins, i doodled out a cute little one-panel scribble of an orca trying to sneak up on a penguin on an ice-flow, and the penguin giving it a withering look and saying "I can see you". And Griffin, bless his soul, loved it so much that he went around the office and one by one, convinced everyone that it should be the comic for that issue. And so it was. And the Utako (because i'd left, having finished my work), didn't have a title for my comic, and so, spur of the moment, just decided to call it "Blubber Buddies". Which has been the (now predominantly nonsensical) name for my comic series ever since.

I'm actually not very satisfied with this. I need a graphic tablet, man. This whole scan-and-clean is getting to be too much work, and i'm getting lazy as a result. For proper comedic timing, there should be a couple panels after reading the sign where he looks sneakily left and right before he throws it away, to make sure it's understood that he's aware that he's not supposed to be doing it, but that he doesn't expect the terrible repercussions that follow his actions. But man, this already took me three hours to do, and adding those two panels would have taken me another one. Or, shit, maybe i just need to take a class on how to clean these up shortcut-style. I don't know.
